Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports joins Marc and Shawn to talk college football, throwing ML into a frenzy. But first, Matt Riley drops in to hype his annual Killer Cares fundraiser for kids.

STRAIGHT DOPE

Before we start raising money for kids, ML tries to raise money for the show by pushing Soul of Detroit merch. We’ll take orders until Dec. 10, and purchases ship before the holidays. Here’s how to get your order in.

If you’re wondering where Erika Erickson has been, she’s STILL working the dayshift at WDIV-TV (Channel 4), so she won’t back with us until January. But we hope you’ll still listen to Marc, Shawn, me … and whoever else we can drag into Drew’s basement!

Every year ML, Marc and a host of local media and sports luminaries tend bar at The Lodge in Keego Harbor to raise money for children’s charities. The Killer Cares event started as Matt Riley’s tribute to the late, great Oakland Press sportswriter Tom “Killer” Kowalski. Find out more about how you can come out to meet us and support the kids here.

Dan Wetzel drops by to talk about The Big Game, but first Marc asks him about the story he wrote about Tate Myre, one of the Oxford High School students killed by a classmate. It’s an amazing story about a young man with new talent and old values. Read it for yourself here.

ML dreaded this moment, but the conversation turns to the foot-brawl game in Columbus where Xichigan beat the Team Down South. Shawn says the game has become so toxic that OSU Coach Ryan Day can’t handle it. Get Shawn’s take here.

The sports guys wax and wane about the game while ML tries to keep his head from exploding. He finally loses it when the discussion – once again! – turns to NIL and money in college sports.

Not surprisingly, ML thinks the UM-OSU game was hard to watch because the football was terrible and ended as many games do, with the Wolverines in a scuffle and blaming everyone else. Surprisingly, one of the other folks on the show agrees with him – but only about the game.

ML issues an apology to listeners, and salutes his favorite Michigan sportswriter. Listen and hear all about it!

GEEK OF THE WEEK

Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son Hunter makes him this week’s geek – a choice so obvious even Shawn agrees!

ROOM 7609

In honor of Killer Cares, and Marc, ML books Radiohead into the New Wave suite to perform “Killer Cars.” Then Marc explains why Thom Yorke hates cars so much!  You can also send us your favorite deep cut or obscure band – and a story about them or why they mean something to you – by writing to mlsoulofdetroit@gmail.com.

FEEDBACK

Listener Dan wants ML and Mike Valenti to get together to talk Spartan football. ML doesn’t wait for the 97.1 FM grouch to make his feelings felt. We welcome all your comments – and constructive criticism – at mlsoulofdetroit@gmail.com
