Mike Rataj and the Piece of Garbage reunite to reminisce about the origin of their charity hockey game at Clark Park after Marc comes up with the perfect intro and before Shawn zooms in.

STRAIGHT DOPE: It’s hard to believe it’s been a decade since ML and Mike Rataj dominated the news with their spirited legal discussion during the Kwame Kilpatrick corruption trial. That fracas resulted in ML being known to Drew and Mike listeners as a “piece of garbage” and the creation of a charity hockey game that marks its 10th anniversary on Saturday. To learn more about the game and how you can support kids hit this link.

Just as ML was preparing to board the Lions bandwagon, he was awakened by a phone call informing him the Leo’s first playoff game would take place at almost the exact same time as his charity hockey game. Listen and learn about the chaos that ensued. (Spoiler alert: The game will now be played at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Come out for the fun!)

Would Donald Trump make Kwame Kilpatrick the top federal prosecutor in Detroit? Mike defended Kilpatrick’s best bud Bobby Ferguson during the public corruption trial, but says watching Kilpatrick stump for Trump hit him hard.

ML surprises Mike with the inside story of the role the FBI played in the feds’ decision to prosecute Kilpatrick for public corruption after he resigned as mayor of Detroit. It’s a long story, well-told!

Marc wonders if it’s time to start celebrating “January in the D.” The Wings and Lions are undefeated in January, and the Pistons have only lost one game. MSU and U-M are doing pretty well, too!

Shawn zooms in and asks the question U-M and MSU fans dread: Who would you rather see win the national championship in college football — Notre Dame or Ohio State?

Shawn hypes the Free Press’ inside look at the Lions’ turnaround. Here is a link to Jeff Seidel’s first installment in the series.

ML and Marc discuss the $100k Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald spent on PR firms after taking on the Ethan Crumbley case. Read all about it here.
