- ML’s plan to have his mom explain her concern for Shawn backfires when she ends up dishing a bunch of dirt on ML. Then M.L. Elrick (Twitter @elrick/Facebook ML ELRICK/Instagram ml_elrick), Marc Fellhauer (Twitter @MarcFell) and Shawn Windsor (Twitter @ShawnWindsor) wait patiently for the return of Soft History Professor Matt Jennings. Joey Zuver wisely skips class to build a snow fort.
- THE STRAIGHT DOPE: Something is wrong with Shawn’s foot, but despite relentless questioning, he will not explain his agony of de-feet.
- While Shawn nurses his aching tootsies, ML beats him about the head and neck with some correspondence from listeners.
- ML’s mom — whose name really IS Karen — joins the show to defend Shawn.
- Somehow, and ML should have seen this coming, the conversation turns to what a rotten kid he was. Even the good stories — “ML always stuck up for the weak” — end badly.
- Wolverines on social media erupt in anger when ML tries to give credit for Tampa Bay’s Super Bowl to an outstanding college quarterback from Michigan.
- ML wonders aloud whether he is the only one being plagued on YouTube by ads from a buffed-out douche bag who says the key to ripped abs is a kitchen spice. Shawn, the epicure, claims to know nothing about spices. Then offers a discourse on the magic of cumin — a passion Marc shares.
- GEEK OF THE WEEK: A politicians with a complete lack of irony is this week’s Geek.
- THIS WEEK IN SOFT HISTORY:After a two-week layoff, Perfesser Matt is back. Sort of.
- ROOM 7609: Robyn Hitchcock, one of the finest lyricists in all of New Wave, checks in with “Madonna of the Wasps,” prompting an admiring ML to read several verses, as well as some highlights from another Hitchcock classic “Freeze.” Shawn, anointed by ML’s mother as a wordsmith, is unimpressed. Marc admires ML’s capacity for admiration of elegant lyrics, even if he doesn’t share it.
